INSTITUTE OF HEALTH AND ALLIED SCIENCES (IHAS)
Background of the Institute
In 2007, RUCU incorporated what used to be the Medical Laboratory Sciences School - Ikonda in Makete District into to the then Ruaha University College (RUCO). In order to incorporate the school into the RUCU academic structure, the Governing Board created an Institute of Allied Health Sciences (IAHS) headed by a Director. Initially, the Institute at RUCU comprised of two departments: the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences which taught the Certificate and Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences which taught the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences was added in 2017. Since then, a third department has been created in the Institute called the Department of Environmental Health Sciences which has two programmes: the Certificate and Diploma in Environmental Health Sciences. The two programmes started to run in the academic year 2018/2019.
